It’s been interesting when you just listen to people through out TE land and one of the things that I have heard talked about is the Login Spotlight – love them or hate them.
Until recently, I have not really paid alot of attention to them as this is not a mod that I have on my site yet and wanted to weigh the pros and cons first. So I have been listening and testing some things.
The first thing that I have heard is all the emails that you get talking about claiming your login spotlight reward. Some say that it’s annoying especially if you are already getting many emails and some say that they just delete them and I have to admit that I did for awhile also until I started really looking into this feature.
One of the first things that I have discovered is that these pages can be bought at a very, very reasonable price – I was actually amazed at some of the deals that site owners have on these pages. – looking for a bargain – this would be one.
Another thing is that members get credits to looking at your page – and that can vary depending on the site – so are you leaving free credits on the table by not waiting for that timer to run out.
AND are you leaving more credits on the table by not taking the time to rate the page that you viewed. After running a few of these login spotlights, I am finding the feedback that you get very helpful – hints on improvements, new ideas and suggestions. To me this is a very inexpensive way to get your page critiqued. And do you know that you get bonus credits for giving your opinion about the page – so I personally feel this is a win-win for both parties – the viewer and the one submitting the page.
So the next time that you get one of those spotlight emails and before you delete it – think about this – if that was YOUR ad would you want someone to take a few minutes to look at your page and give you their honest opinion on that page or site – OR would you want them to just delete the email.
Also before you think it is a PITA to login and look at the page – think about this – for taking a few minutes of YOUR time you are rewarded with credits so that your site can be seen more and gives you a chance to check to make sure that you have credits assigned at least and you might be surprised you may needed those credits you just earned.
So kudos to all that take advantage of this awesome feature and if you haven’t tried them yet – take the time to check them out – I really think you will come to the same conclusion that I did – it’s a good business decision to use Login Spotlight pages.
Good topic Nancy- I have to say I love them and hate them, at the same time.
First the hate-
*”all the emails” is a site decision. You can turn this feature on or off. Personally, we have it turned off at Hot Flash Hits.
* Sometimes I am just in a hurry to grab a link or assign credits when I login to a site. If this is the case, then I usually just skip the login spotlight.
*This one is more of an annoyance than hate- If I take the time to leave a comment, then I should be rewarded more. Some owners have the bonus set the same.
*People who leave a comment to grab the extra bonus but abuse the system by putting something nonsensical like “….” or “fjlfjlflj”. We have actually started suspending the bonus for members who do this.
Now the LIKE: (Well you touched on the majority of them.)
*”all the emails”- yes I have this under both. Sometimes getting this email, is a good reminder for me to login to a site and grab some extra credits.
*If you get good legitimate feedback, in can be priceless in your tweaking your advertising.
*One of the most affordable ways to put the spotlight (thus the name) on your business.
Basically for me, I do love them and hate them. With that said, I have embraced them as a valuable feature when advertising on a traffic exchange.
Awesome, Awesome and well said and all good points and I know there are people that will just leave the nonsensical likes and I have thought about that also but the thing is they seen it, my name, brand, site whatever it was – was “in their face again”.
I do know what you are saying about the emails being on both – like you it’s a reminder that I have not maybe been to that site for awhile and great time to check my credits supply.
Thanks for the comment
Also the emails to members when there is a new login spotlight ad for them to view can be turned off. Most the times owners dont bother to go through all their own settings and customize their site. BUT it only sends an email when a NEW login spotlight ad has started..so if the same person has the login spotlight for 3 days or a week you will only get ONE email about it when the ads starts on its first day.
Just a note for owners 🙂
That is good to know and actually I like to piss and moan about all the emails but have just learned to make them a benefit for me and go login and check my credits at that site 🙂
I think the login ads work for members that buy them – I get many repeat bookings and people tell me they have received several referrals from their ad – of course it depends on what they show as a bad page will give bad results no matter where they show it.
I have mail turned off for spotlight ads but I try to mention there is a new login ad in my member mail – There seems no good reason to send more mail but at the same time I want to encourage members to login so the advertiser has more chance of a good result.
Like Cathy I try to remove rewards when people write rubbish but sometimes there are just to many comments and not enough time to read them all but as a TE Owner and Advertiser its good to read comments on other peoples pages as it gives me ideas on what to say (or not say) on my own ads
Overall I think there are more positives than negatives with Login Spotlight Ads for members and owners

Thanks Louise for the comment and I agree with you – each person has to just test and see what kind of results they get – I personally have had great results and will continue to use them.
